Marie-Dominique Poirier, Patient Partner

Passerelle (Quebec)
I am a music teacher and started my training in patient partnership in 1997 when pain came into my life. To live well with my health condition, I became a partner in my care and this pain rather than slowing me down became the driving force behind my commitment to patient partnership.
For more than 20 years, I have been involved in various settings, governance, care and services, research as well as in organizations promoting research with and for patients. My experiential knowledge is combined with my professional knowledge. I am interested in knowledge transfer, the complementarity of learning from all parties involved and particularly the integration of patient perspective into multidisciplinary teams to better support the improvement of primary care.
My participation in the TUTOR-PHC program will allow me to fill the gaps in my training, to better understand our Canadian health care system and to develop my leadership as a patient-researcher, involved in various environments.
